[#051] My First Billion: Chapter 42
I woke up this morning on the island of Aruba as I turned 42.
I've been celebrating all week with Vanessa and two of my favorite people in the world, who also happen to be my pastors.
I've been doing a lot of reflecting lately.
Not because I'm having some midlife crisis, but because the more I live…
The more I realize how much of what I once thought mattered…
Really doesn't.
I used to think success was about getting somewhere.
Hitting a certain revenue milestone.
Getting a bigger bag.
Accomplishing the next big thing.
And don't get me wrong…
I still have some goals I’m working on.
But something has shifted.
I'm no longer willing to sacrifice the life I have today chasing the life I think I'll have tomorrow.
Because what if this is it?
Not in the sense that there's nothing more to accomplish.
But what if the life you're praying for…
Is the life you're already living?
What if the things you keep telling yourself you'll enjoy "once you make it"...
Are things you could be enjoying right now?
More time with your family.
More peace.
More laughter.
More experiences.
More mornings where you wake up excited about your life…
And you operate FROM success vs. for success.
What if you’ve already won, but you’re too “busy” in the Entrepreneurial Rat Race to realize it.
I've learned that you can be grateful for where you are and be content as you’re building what you feel you’re called to build.
Scripture says…
"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." -1 Corinthians 13:11
Even as an adult, in my childish understanding, I used to think that being content meant…
Being complacent.
But in reality, it means a state of peaceful happiness.
Now I believe building from a place of contentment makes the journey that much sweeter.
One of the biggest shifts I've made is learning to hold my goals loosely.
And to release my attachment to how and when everything unfolds.
It’s my life’s Creed:
Show Up.
Sow Faithfully.
Surrender the Results to the Lord.
The more I practice it, the more peace I experience.
Because I don't have to figure everything out.
I don't have to control everything.
And I don't have anything to prove.
At 42, I'm realizing that the real flex isn't having another record-breaking revenue month…
It's being able to look at your life, as it is today, and say…
I have a Wealthy Life!
So here's my birthday wish for you…
Whatever you're working toward…
Whatever you're believing for…
Whatever goal you've convinced yourself you have to achieve before you can finally exhale…
I pray you give yourself permission to enjoy your life along the way.
Because one day, we'll all look back and realize…
These were the good old days.
And I'd hate for either of us to have missed them because we were too busy chasing the next thing.
Here's to 42.
And to living a Wealthy Life, right now.
Tell those you love that you love them.
Marquel
P.S. I have a birthday question for you: What's one thing you know now that you wish you'd understood 10 years ago?
Hit reply and tell me. I'd love to hear it.
