[#019] My First Billion: Build Week
Some weeks are about decisions, and some weeks are about direction.
This week was about neither.
This week was about execution.
Monday, I started where I always try to start the month, with a review via my personal board meeting.
Looking back at February and planning March, making sure what I'm walking into is intentional and not just reactive.
That kind of morning doesn't make the highlight reel, but it's what makes everything else downstream run cleaner.
Something else I've been dialing in this week is my morning solitude time.
Alignment with God and regulating my nervous system before anything else.
No text messages, no emails, no Slack, no WhatsApp. Only intentional inputs and stillness.
I'm convinced this is the most underrated competitive advantage an entrepreneur can have.
Not a productivity hack. Not a morning routine for content. Regulation.
The ability to stay aligned and grounded when the business is moving fast, when decisions are heavy, when the week is full.
Everything performs better from that place.
I'm treating it like training now.
Jesus put it this way in John 15:5:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
I’m standing on that so this rooting my days in this way is me living it out.
I had to be done by 2 to pick up the boys, rescheduled our Strategic Planning Call with the leadership team.
Constraints like that make you move more efficient than any productivity system I've tried.
Tuesday was coaching day with clients, which is always one of the better parts of the week.
Also jumped on a pop-up workshop with my business partner, Adrian, talking about the One-Minute Selling System, which we're rolling out next week.
That night I went to MJ's band concert.
Watching your kid perform, that's one of those moments you just don't skip and I’m grateful to have a life where I can be there.
Wednesday and Thursday were pure Build.
I'm not sure I've had a two-day stretch this focused in a while.
Wednesday: synced up with the team on the Founder Freedom Workshop.
A lot to flush out; assets, sequencing, positioning. Got ads turned on for it.
Did my Wednesday protocol. Trained with my health coach.
Then took the boys to boxing that evening, ended up being a two-a-day without planning it that way.
Portal built out for the members area.
Thursday was content day.
Eight reels shot, all direct to camera.
Five ads recorded for the Pre-Sold Prospects Pipeline System.
Funnels checked, pixels verified, Manychat automation handed off to Chris.
Email sequences built out; post-purchase, abandoned cart, the whole backend.
Ad creatives in production.
Kev and I also knocked out two episodes of the Strategic Scale show.
We tested going virtual this time instead of in person and it worked out so well we're making that the standard format going forward…
…with the liberty to do in-person when it makes sense.
Clean decision. Simpler, faster, and the quality held up.
Went back to boxing Thursday yesterday with the boys.
Coach looked at me and said, “why you ain’t training?”
I told him I was chilling. I'll get back in tomorrow. Sometimes rest is the right call and I’m at the place in
my life where I can rest without judging myself.
A few other things from the week:
Got some good news from my wealth advisor, that there's an asset I own that I can leverage to pay off interest on another investment.
Small thing on the surface, but that's the kind of financial clarity that compounds quietly over time.
Also got a content call in with the LinkedIn side of my team.
YouTube video didn't get shot this week (gonna possibly do today).
Some things move and some things wait.
And I got declined again for the chaperone spot on MJ's D.C. trip.
This happened with Ro-Ro’s field trip back in December. I made a post explaining what happened, here.
Rather than sit on a non-refundable ticket I couldn't use or go back and forth with the company explaining why they should refund me…
Mj’s band teacher, found a family who couldn't afford to send their kid and passed it to them.
That child gets to go to D.C. now.
I'll just fly in separately and hang out locally incase Mj needs me.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
-Romans 8:28
I’m grateful to be able to do it.
Looking ahead:
Next Friday and Saturday is the Strategic Scale Bootcamp and we have 37 clients coming in to do some deep work.
I've been watching what the biggest constraint is for most of them, and it keeps coming back to content creation.
So I'm bringing something to the bootcamp I've been building out called the Direct Response Content Machine…
…a system for producing content that does sales work, not just visibility.
A lot in motion. All of it pointed somewhere Specific.
And now that the assets are build, they run like a machine without much management.
That's the difference between busy and building.
By the time this hits your inbox I'll be wrapping up the week with the Miseducation of the Christian Show…
Then tomorrow, Saturday, starting the day with a hike with MJ, RoRo and Ry-Pie.
Then looking at some properties with Vanessa, and date night to close it out.
That's the whole point of building the way we build.
And Sunday I start a 6-week teaching series at church.
The topic God assigned me is probably the most controversial one I could've been handed… money.
Whether it's ungodly to be rich, pure to be poor, the love of it, all of it.
I've got 40 pages of notes and I'm still going down the rabbit hole.
If you've never seen somebody walk on water in real life, here I go (in my Mystikal voice).
Before I wrap it up, what's the thing in your business right now that's 90% done but needs that final push to actually launch?
More next week.
Tell those you love, that you love them.
